Dan Rolleri, Speak’s publisher and eventual editor, originally conceived of the project as a fashion and music magazine. The first issue reflected that direction in its contents. While there are some pages which I still enjoy, the bulk of the design was a mad conglomeration of everything I could think of. Uncontrolled excess was not a rarity in the mid-90s. It took several issues before I calmed down.
