Summer of Love, the blockbuster exhibition at San Francisco’s De Young Museum, celebrates the 50th anniversary of this pivotal cultural moment. Several curators worked together to provide a full exploration of this era’s impact on fashion, art, graphics, music, and politics. 1967 was a time when all these disciplines bled into each other, and so the catalog was designed to accentuate these mutual influences. I designed a basic flower motif that recurs throughout the pages in many incarnations: symbol, pattern, backdrop, and typography.
