Elbe Philharmonic Hall (Elbphilharmonie), perched along the Elbe River in Hamburg, Germany, is a jewel of contemporary architecture. The concert hall publishes its own magazine and each issue features an eight-page photo essay about the building. In 2021 I was invited to create this section plus the cover for their “Vorwärts!” (Forward!) issue. The article, “Schritt für Schritt” (“Step by Step”) tells the story of the building, from its setting on the water’s edge to the musical performances inside. The collages feature my own abstract photography, found photos in my collection, plus the work of professional photographers Oliver Vania, Maxim Schulz, Claudia Höhne, Jewengi Roppel, Gilda Fernandez, and Michael Zapf.
